Berenice

Berenice1, daughter of Psherenptah III2 by Taimhotep3, born 19 Choiak or 19 Mesore year 25 of Ptolemy XII = 23 December 56 or 20 August 554, married Pedubast5 year 13 of Cleopatra VII = 40/396, mother of Psheren(ptah) and at least one daughter7, died Pachon year 19 of Cleopatra VII = May 338, buried 30 Epeiph year 19 of Cleopatra VII = 26 July 339.

[1] Not in PP. Her inclusion depends on Reymond's reading and translation of Young's transcription of stele BM 392, E. A. E. Reymond, From the Records of a Priestly Family of Memphis 203ff. Young's transcription of the stele is dismissed as illegible by J. Quaegebeur, CdE 49 (1974) 59, 69f. (23). However, D. Devauchelle, CdE 58 (1983)) 135, 140 accepts Reymond's reading of the genealogical sections of the stele. Ý

[4] Stele BM 392. E. A. E. Reymond, From the Records of a Priestly Family of Memphis 202, 205 transliterates the month as IV Axt and correctly translates this as Choiak. D. Devauchelle, CdE 58 (1983) 135, 140 notes that Reymond consistently assigns Smw months to Axt, and reads birthdate as 9 Mesore. In her treatment of the events of year 19 this can be demonstrated from the logical inconsistencies that arise from assuming the correctness of Axt. However, this argument does not apply in this case. While a systematic error on Reymond's part is certainly possible, all that can be demonstrated is that she was careless about the seasons. Ý

[8] Stele BM 392. E. A. E. Reymond, From the Records of a Priestly Family of Memphis 202, 205 transliterates the month as I Axt (=Thoth) and translates it as Tybi (= I prt). D. Devauchelle, CdE 58 (1983) 135, 140 notes that Reymond consistently assigns Smw months to Axt, and assuming the correctness of Axt in this case would have her die at least a month before the birth of her daughter Psheren[ptah]. The month should therefore be corrected to I Smw = Pachon. Ý

[9] Stele BM 392. E. A. E. Reymond, From the Records of a Priestly Family of Memphis 201, 202, 205 transliterates the month as III Axt and correctly translates it as Hathyr. D. Devauchelle, CdE 58 (1983) 135, 140 notes that Reymond consistently assigns Smw months to Axt. The month should be corrected to III Smw = Epeiph. Ý
