« A.U.C. 588 = 166 B.C. »

This year had an intercalation since the Fasti Triumphales record the triumph of M. Claudius Metellus on Kal. Int. of that year. Its length is unknown.

However, A.U.C. 587 = 167 was 377 days long. Hence, on the reconstructed Lex Acilia proposed here, A.U.C. 588 = 166 was 378 days long. Since, on the same reconstruction, the Julian dates A.U.C. 587 = 167 are known, this fixes the absolute dates of A.U.C. 588 = 166.
